We built our site in Minecraft!!

There has been SO much going on at the Backlands and Black Bull Close site that we hardly know where to start but we thought we would start with that for a headline. Together with Archeaology Scotland, DigIt Scotland and Immersive Minds we put on a wonderful day that allowed a very lucky group of youngsters to really get involved  and experience archaeology and their local heritage in a way that they had never had the chance to do so before. We are saying a lucky group here not just because of the amazing team that put the day on but also because of our amazing funders, Heritage Lottery Fund and The Architectural Heritage Fund.

They all had a chance to carry out a building survey, measure the site and produce scale drawings as well as photograph part of the site and then use these photographs to make a 3D computer model. All of the information that was gathered in the morning was used to inform their Minecraft build in the afternoon. This was a truly amazing day and shows in spades that  heritage, archaeology and the built environment is not only relevant but it’s cool and when you find different languages to get your message across you will always find a willing audience.
