Sunny Soups grew out of the Plenty Project as a way for course participants to stay in touch, continue to learn new cooking skills, and volunteer to reduce local food waste and generate free, nourishing food for the community.
Unsold fruit, vegetables and herbs are donated by local shops including The Cooperative and the Crunchy Carrot, as well as farms and community and personal gardens, and turned by volunteers into soups, stewed fruit, purees and more. This is then available for anyone to take, absolutely free, from a freezer in Dunbar’s Bleachingfield Centre – find it between the Ridge Cafe and the Library entrance.
Sunny Soups cooking sessions are usually held on Friday afternoons. If you would like to volunteer, no previous cooking skills are necessary – just email info@the-ridge.org.uk to find out more.
