Working together with Department of Work and Pensions (Jobcentre Plus), and Skills Development Scotland, we deliver courses in sector-specific employability skills.

We offer both Stage 2 and Stage 3 placements as part of the Employability Fund contract. This means working with people who are really quite far from being ready for work, as well as those who are a bit closer.

Here is a link to a description of the ‘Skills Pipeline’ stages, which outlines the different approaches to support at each stage:

At Stage 3, the Ridge (which is an SQA-accredited centre) offers an enhanced version of the Certificate of Work Readiness (COWR). This is an SVQ qualification at SCQF level 4, which includes a Work Placement unit, designed by Skills Development Scotland in collaboration with employers. It aims to promote real workplace skills, and is a very useful tool (and impressive for the CV) in preparing an individual for the world of work.

The main areas covered are:

  • Responsibilities of Employment
  • Dealing with work situations
  • Skills for Customer Care
  • Skills Development Scotland customised unit: Practical Work Place Skills
  • Personal Development: Self and Work
