Plenty going on

It’s been a busy and exciting time at The Ridge recently. We have started our fantastically successful Plenty Project. The Plenty Project is designed for people who want to learn how, what and why to cook on a limited budget. Five sessions include classes on budgeting, nutrition and practical cooking, and then a community meal cooked by the course participants for up to 40 guests. Cooking sessions focus on cheap, nutritious meals that can be enjoyed by the whole family, and can be tailored to participants’ own needs and what they would like to learn to cook and eat....

Goodbye Food Waste – Hello Sunny Soups

Sunny Soups grew out of the Plenty Project as a way for course participants to stay in touch, continue to learn new cooking skills, and volunteer to reduce local food waste and generate free, nourishing food for the community. Unsold fruit, vegetables and herbs are donated by Cooperative Food, and turned by volunteers into soups, compotes, stewed fruit, purees and more. This is then available for anyone to take, absolutely free, from a freezer in Dunbar’s Bleachingfield Centre.
